Beginning with an afternoon pickup from your hotel in Chiang Mai, you’ll travel to the border town of Chiang Khong. The next morning, you’ll cross into Laos with our assistance, journey to the high-speed rail station, and board the Laos–China train, arriving in Luang Prabang with ease and comfort.

The Experience

Day 1: Chiang Mai to Huay Xai, Laos

• 9:00–9:30 am: Be picked up from your hotel in Chiang Mai in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle.
• Morning: Begin the scenic overland journey toward the Thai–Laos border. Along the way, enjoy a short stop at the magnificent White Temple (Wat Rong Khun) in Chiang Rai for photos and sightseeing.
• ~2:00 pm: Arrive at the Chiang Khong border. Our guide will assist you with Thai immigration exit formalities.
• ~2:30 pm: Cross the Friendship Bridge by shuttle bus into Huay Xai, Laos.
• ~3:00 pm: Meet our friendly Lao team, who will assist you with the visa-on-arrival process and escort you to your hotel in Huay Xai (included in the tour).
• Late Afternoon / Evening: Settle into your accommodation and take time to explore this peaceful border town. Enjoy the relaxed atmosphere, local restaurants, or a riverside walk as you watch the sunset over the Mekong River.

Day 2: High-Speed Train to Luang Prabang

• 7:00 am: After breakfast at your hotel, you’ll be picked up and transferred to the Chiang Khong–Huay Xai border area for your onward journey.
• ~7:30 am: Our team will assist with any remaining formalities.
• 9:00 am: Depart Huay Xai in a private vehicle for the drive through Northern Laos to Boten High-Speed Train Station.
• Afternoon: Board the modern Laos–China high-speed train and relax as you travel through stunning mountain scenery, tunnels, and bridges.
• Arrival: Arrive at Luang Prabang Station, where the organized tour concludes. Local tuk-tuks and taxis are available to take you to your hotel in the city center.
